Neal has been a board member of the American Atheists corporations since 1993, and has served as chairman for the last two years.  In addition to his responsibilities to the symphony, he maintains a large private studio at the College of William and Mar.   Despite his busy schedule, Neal makes sure to take the occasional family vacation with his wife, symphony violinist Cathy Cary, and their two children: Emma and Alan.
