      why Marty loves:

      Symphony No. 40 by Mozart

One of my favorite pieces is Mozart symphony #40 in G minor. It has the depth and darkness of Mozart's later works, combined with great compositional construct and orchestration. It's an incredibly rewarding piece to play- it requires a refined sound, well-thought phrases with just the right amount of intensity, and it's technically quite hard. But the payoff is huge, in my opinion nothing rewards good playing and doing the hard work in rehearsal quite like a later Mozart work, which is why I'm really looking forward to playing his Requiem this coming season.
